STASIO's Story
This is Stasio, a beautiful Saluki male, who was dumped in the desert to starve to death. Read on to learn about his story......
Every Friday we go with Dogs in Doha friends to the desert with our dogs, to socialize them and to let them have a good run. On one occassion, one of my friend's told me that he'd seen a beautiful Saluki at the edge of the desert; he'd tried to catch it, but the dog was terrified. On my way back I looked every where near to the place that he'd been seen but couldn`t find him. So I left the desert and went home feeling a bit grumpy.
After an hour I got a miss-call from my friend. When I called back he told me he'd managed to catch the dog and that the dog was safe with another friend of ours. The next day Stasio, that's what we called him, was taken to the Vet and I went to check him out. I was shocked to see his condition; he appeared to be a gorgeous Saluki but after being dumped in the desert to starve to death he was so skinny and dehydrated that it was painful for him to even lay down. After a medical check-up, he is now staying in a foster-home where hopefully he will recover from his horrible experience and his faith in people will be restored. Once he's back up on his feet, we'll look for a home for him, where he will be treated like an animal should be treated, with respect, good care and lots of love.
During Statio`s recovery I`ll be posting his story here so you can read about his progress. If you would like to make a donation towards his vet bill, we would really appreciate it and I`m sure Stasio would too.......
Thanks for reading his story, and lots of hugs from Stasio to all the people who cared enough and who rescued him...

Update Stasio:
Stasio`s Foster-Mom sent me the latest news on Stasio and I like to share it with all of you!
"Stasio is learning to trust me more and more. Yesterday he would not come in the house. Today I left the door open and he came in by himself and settled on the bed I had made for him inside the house with the cushions you kindly donated. I have not taken him for long walks, just a gentle walk around our villa but he was getting faster and faster and was pulling me at the end! I suspect he was a racing dog because he tried to race a car and that is how racing dogs are trained"
Slowly, step by step Stasio is on his way to becoming a happy Saluki, he learning to trust people day by day. But he still has a long way to go.....

UPDATE: STASIO 03/03/2010
Thought I would share the latest info from Stasio's foster family with you.........
"Stasio was afraid of going up or down the stairs and when it rained, we had to carry him upstairs to our bedroom at night, so he would not sleep outside. Downstairs is open plan so we did not feel we could let him roam around, yet. Anyway, I recently hurt my arm so this morning I could not carry his bedding downstairs. This afternoon I fell asleep on the sofa. and when I woke up, Stasio had disappeared. I was beginning to get frantic thinking, where he could have escaped to. As a last resort I went upstairs. Yes, you guessed it, Stasio had gone upstairs to bed and was lying on your cushions which I had made into his bed by folding a blanket round them.
How right you were when you said that from your hand they would take your arm and then your shoulder!!!!!!!!!!
I would not have been surprised to find him in my bed tucked under the duvet!!!!!!!!
He also enjoys his two daily walks with me and tells me when it is time for us to go. In the evening it is Dave's turn and Stasio goes up to him and starts nuzzling him to let him know that its time to go for his evening ramble.
Stasio now has a friend on the compound, Jessica, a 1 year old German spitz. He likes playing with her but she keeps him in check! Will send some photos of them together when I get them from Jessica's owner!"
